Paul Mullin at the double! Wrexham down league leaders Mansfield Town in blockbuster top-of-the-table clash, leaving Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side dreaming of back-to-back promotions

Wrexham secured a massive win in their bid to win promotion to League One as they beat their biggest rivals for automatic promotion on Good Friday.

After a quiet and scrappy start to the game, the contest burst into life when Mullin swept home Andy Cannon's low cross to the edge of the six-yard box in the 32nd minute. A raucous home crowd breathed a huge sigh of relief just after the hour mark when Davis Keillor-Dunn's equaliser was ruled out as it was deemed the former Wrexham player fouled goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo in the build-up. Four minutes later, Mansfield's Jordan Bowery felled Luke Bolton in the box - although there was some doubt over whether he actually had entered the area - and Mullin smashed home his spot-kick to double the Welsh side's advantage.

Phil Parkinson's men saw out the remainder of the contest in impressive fashion as they drew level on 73 points with Mansfield and are just one point off leaders Stockport County.

Paul Mullin: The man for the big occasion came up trumps once again as he was in the right place at the right time to put Wrexham ahead and he emphatically dispatched his penalty to secure his side all three points against second-placed Mansfield on Friday.

Davis Keillor-Dunn: The Mansfield midfielder, who played for Wrexham in the second half of the 2019/20 season, scored a perfectly good goal but it was wrongly chalked off as Arthur Okonkwo failed to hold onto the loose ball and it was ruled a foul. The game could have been very different if that goal stood at 1-1.

Following this hugely important victory at the top end of League Two, Wrexham - who are three points ahead of fourth-placed MK Dons - take on mid-table Doncaster Rovers on their own patch on Tuesday, followed by a trip to relegation-threatened Colchester United next Saturday.
