    WHAT SHAW SAID

Shaw said: "I felt something against Aston Villaand came off at half-time. It’s kind of everyone’s fault. Partly my fault, partly medical staff, I think everyone would admit that. The scan came back and there wasn’t too much there. But I didn’t train all week, then trained the day before the game. If the manager asks me to play, I’m never going to say no. I shouldn’t have played."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Shaw has been included in Gareth Southgate's squad despite suffering an injury-hit season which has seen him turn out 15 times for Manchester United and heads to the Euros having not played since mid-February. HIs inclusion comes with Southgate having a lack of left-back options, with Ben Chilwell not named in the Three Lions squad after also enduring an injury-ravaged season. Shaw is the only recognised out-and-out left-back in Southgate's 26-man squad.

WHAT NEXT FOR SHAW AND ENGLAND?

England begin their Euro 2024 tilt next Sunday when they take on Serbia in Gelsenkirchen. Shaw is not expected to be fit in time for the opener, which means Newcastle United's Kieran Trippier is likely to start at left-back, with the hope being that Shaw will be fit in time to face Denmark on June 20.
