Liverpool’s remarkable league campaign has been reflected in the Premier League’s end-of-season accolades, with three of their standout performers earning nominations for the Player of the Season award. Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch are among the eight-man shortlist following their instrumental roles in guiding the Merseyside club to their 20th top-flight title.
Getty ImagesDutch centre-back Van Dijk has been an ever-present figure in the backline, playing every league match and contributing to 14 clean sheets as he anchors what has been one of the division’s most reliable defences. Meanwhile, Salah’s attacking output has once again proven indispensable. The Egyptian international has delivered a stunning 46 goal involvements - 28 goals and 18 assists - making him the league’s most productive player in front of goal this season.
Nottingham Forest are the only other club to boast multiple nominees in the Player of the Season category. Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood have both made the shortlist following standout seasons for the Midlands club. Gibbs-White’s dynamic midfield play has caught the eye, while striker Wood is enjoying a career-best Premier League campaign, having netted 20 goals in 34 appearances.
Other notable contenders include Alexander Isak of Newcastle, who sits second in the scoring charts with 23 goals, and Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, whose tally of 18 goals and seven assists places him third for overall goal contributions. Arsenal’s midfield engine, Declan Rice, rounds off the list, having delivered a consistent and commanding presence throughout the campaign.
AFPIn the managerial category, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has emerged as a surprise nominee. Pereira took the reins in December with the club languishing in 19th place. Since then, he has masterminded a dramatic turnaround, collecting 10 wins and two draws in just 18 games to secure the club’s top-flight status. Wolves now sit comfortably in 14th place.
Liverpool’s Arne Slot, having steered his team to the title in his debut Premier League season, is a clear frontrunner for the award. Eddie Howe of Newcastle and Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo also make the shortlist, with both clubs still in the race for Champions League qualification as the season nears its end. Thomas Frank of Brentford is the final name on the list, having guided the Bees to what looks set to be their best-ever league finish of eighth.
Cole Palmer is looking to claim back-to-back Young Player of the Season titles after another standout campaign with Chelsea. The 23-year-old has contributed 15 goals and eight assists in 35 appearances, underlining his importance to the Blues' attacking efforts.
Liverpool’s Gravenberch is also nominated in this category, joined by Liam Delap, whose 12 goals have been vital for Ipswich. Other rising stars included are Anthony Elanga of Forest, Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen, who is reportedly set for a move to Real Madrid, Joao Pedro of Brighton, Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa, and William Saliba, the ever-reliable Arsenal centre-back.
