  • Real star urges "perspective" ahead of Euro 2024
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Real Madrid sensation rescued England at the death in Tuesday's friendly against Belgium, getting on the end of James Maddison's assist to make it 2-2 in the fifth minute of stoppage time. That draw means the Three Lions are without a win from their two March friendlies ahead of Euro 2024. However, Bellingham has urged fans not to reactive negatively to those results and has reminded them to "keep perspective" ahead of the showcase tournament in Germany.

    WHAT BELLINGHAM SAID

Speaking on getting a late result at Wembley, Bellingham told Channel 4: "I liked it because I know the rubbish we would’ve got if we lost two games on the bounce. With these games, you’ve got to keep perspective. A lot of lads are making debuts, a lot of these lads I’ve never played with before and I thought we created a lot of chances. I’m happy I could make it up to the team - but really we should be winning with all the chances we made. Two games that will stand us in great stead heading into the Euros. I know everyone will be negative about it but you have to take these games for what they are. Take the positives, learn from the negatives and I’m sure we’ll be fine."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Gareth Southgate was already without countless starters ahead of matches against Brazil and Belgium. He lost Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson and Bukayo Saka without them kicking a ball and Manchester City duo Kyle Walker and John Stones to in-game injuries. And Bellingham highlighted those issues among a plethora Southgate has had to deal with this time around, adding: "We trust everyone that comes into the squad. They all come into the squad because they’re good players.

"Of course it’s hard for the gaffer, people need to realise how hard it is. You plan these games, these sides for games, because you expect a fully-fit team and you expect to give it a really good crack. And the skipper gets injured, Bukayo, Hendo’s obviously out, Walks, Stonesy now. It’s a really difficult one for us, but I’m sure the manager’s happy with the players he got to see. They were brilliant."

    WHAT NEXT FOR BELLINGHAM?

While one draw from two games won't please England fans, the sight of Bellingham stepping up to save the day bodes well ahead of a tournament where the Three Lions could rely on him heavily for goals. The 20-year-old had been serving a two-game suspension for Madrid but is expected to face Athletic Club in their next match on March 31.
