'Was a joke!' - Real Madrid icon Ronaldo names ex-Premier League star who 'beat the hell out of people' as his worst ever team-mate

Gravesen moved to Real Madrid in January 2005 after spending four-and-a-half seasons at Everton. With his contract due to expire at the end of the 2004-05 campaign, the Toffees made £2.5 million ($3m) from the transfer. At Los Blancos, Gravesen played alongside some of the top players in the world, including Selecao icon Ronaldo Nazario, who has described the Danish midfielder as the worst team-mate he ever shared a dressing room with.

Speaking to fellow Brazil icon Romario on his YouTube channel, Ronaldo said: "There was one at Real Madrid who was a joke. Gravesen. He was a Danish midfielder. He was a really cool guy, good guy. A little while ago he won a $50 million poker tournament or something. But in football, he was very bad, he scored and he beat the hell out of people."

Gravensen's stint at Santiago Bernabeu lasted only 18 months, and in that short spell, he earned a reputation in Spain for being a hot-headed and rough footballer. He infamously got into a fight with Robinho during a training session and also reportedly knocked out Ronaldo's teeth. On the midfielder's attitude, the then-Madrid boss Fabio Capello had said: "He's just a little bit peculiar. I don't mess with him, he works well tactically. His behaviour is like this, and I don't like it. Everything has to be done like he wants it to be done."

After leaving the Spanish giants in 2006, the midfielder spent a season at Celtic before heading back to Goodison Park on loan in the 2007-08 season. Gravesen finally announced his retirement in January 2009.
