'I didn't know the rules' - Jesse Lingard admits to 'dangerous' actions amid police probe as ex-Man Utd star faces punishment over ill-judged social media post

Lingard is under police investigation after sharing a video of himself riding an electric scooter in Seoul without a valid license or a protective helmet on Instagram - which has since been deleted. Lingard hasn't had the easiest of times since moving to Asia in February, and this is an embarrassing chapter for the former England international.

The 31-year-old has issued an apology for breaking Korean rules that he didn't know were in place. According to the Korea Times, driver's licenses for e-scooter rides were mandated in the country earlier this year, with a fine of 100,000 won (£57/$76) for violators. Furthermore, those found guilty of riding without a helmet can be fined 20,000 won (£11/$15).

"I didn't know the rules of wearing a helmet or having a license as well. In England, and probably in Europe as well, you can just pick up an e-scooter off the street and start riding it," Lingard said on Instagram. "Anyone visiting South Korea, obviously, you have to check the rules. It can be dangerous. Safety first for everyone. Obviously, I won't do that again."

Last year, Lingard was fined £57,000 ($75,000) and banned from driving for 18 months after admitting to drink-driving in Manchester. The Manchester United academy graduate faced several months as a free agent before landing a contract with South Korean outfit FC Seoul in February.

Lingard will hope to put this episode behind him as quickly as possible after rediscovering his scoring touch; he's scored four goals in his past nine games for FC Seoul and broke out a Fortnite-style dance after his most recent strike.
