I-League 2018-19: Top 10 Foreigners to watch out for

The twelfth edition of India's premier domestic league kicks off on 26 October. Goal looks at the best foreign imports across all clubs...

The all-new season of the I-League is set to commence on October 26.

A team can register up to six foreign players in their squad. However, only five of them can be on the field at any given point of time during a game.

Indian Arrows, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Development team obviously will have an all-domestic squad. 

Here is a list of our top ten foreigners' list this season... 

  • Alfred Jaryan Aizawl FC DSK Shivajians FC I-League 2017

    #10 Alfred Jaryan - Aizawl FC

    The Liberian powerhouse returns for a fourth straight season at the club. Won the I-League midfielder of the Year award when Aizawl completed their fairytale title win two seasons ago.
  • Katsumi Yusa Sahil Tavora Mumbai City FC East Bengal Super Cup 2018

    #9 Katsumi Yusa - NEROCA FC

    The 'Japanese Bomber' was introduced to the I-League way back in 2011. He now joins last season's runner-up NEROCA FC; his fifth club in the country after stints with ONGC, NorthEast United and the two Kolkata giants - Mohun Bagan and East Bengal
  • Chennai City Pedro Cruz

    #8 Pedro Manzi - Chennai City

    The Spanish-Uruguayan forward arrives from the Spanish third division team L'Hospitalet. The 29-year-old scored 17 goals last season and took his team to the promotion playoffs. He is expected to thrive under Singaporean head coach Akbar Nawas and Spanish Technical Director Jordi Vila.
  • Henry Kisseka Mohun Bagan

    #7 Henry Kisseka - Mohun Bagan

    Definitely the signing of the winter transfer window last season, the Ugandan scored four crucial goals for Gokulam Kerala, steering them away from bottom place. He has joined Mohun Bagan and should build up on his six goals in the Calcutta Football League, supporting Aser Dipanda up front.

    #6 Yu Kuboki - Minerva Punjab

    Hailed as the successor to Chencho Gyeltshen, the Japanese forward arrives from Sydney Olympic FC. Last season Down Under, he scored 11 goals in 22 league appearances and will be made the focal point of the title holders' attack this time.
  • Varney Kallon Indian Arrows NEROCA FC I-League 2017/2018

    #5 Varney Kallon - NEROCA FC

    A daunting presence at the back, the Liberian was adjudged the best defender of the I-League last season. The Imphal-based side came close to winning the title in their debut season; much will depend on Kallon if they want to repeat that again.
  • Dipanda Dicka East Bengal Mohun Bagan I-League 2017/2018

    #4 Aser Dipanda - Mohun Bagan

    I-League Golden Boot winner for the last two season, the Cameroonian also notched up 10 goals in the Calcutta Football League played a couple of months ago. The former Valencia 'B' striker scores more often than not, making him a constant threat to opposition defenders.
  • East Bengal Mohun Bagan CFL 2018

    #3 Johnny Acosta - East Bengal

    East Bengal's first big money signing after the recent acquisition of the football team by Quess Corp. The Costa Rican defender shall utilise his learnings in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he marked the likes of Neymar and Coutinho, into the premier Indian league.
  • Enrique Esqueda Tigres

    #2 Enrique Esqueda - East Bengal

    A 2005 U17 World Cup winner, the former Mexican forward arrives in India from Poland. The 30-year-old has been scoring for fun during pre-season in Malaysia. Under coach Alejandro Menendez, he will be expected to notch in the goals as the Red and Golds look for their first-ever I-League trophy.

    #1 Sony Norde - Mohun Bagan

    The Mariners sweetheart delivered Mohun Bagan its first I-League victory in 2015, in his first time of asking. The Haitian returns for a fifth season and has a point to prove after an injury last December ruled him our for the rest of the campaign. On his day, can tear apart any defence while bombing down the left flank.
