'I haven't been good enough' - Erling Haaland defends Pep Guardiola and takes blame for Man City's nightmare season with 'confidence' admission

Manchester City's terrible form can see no end at the moment as Pep Guardiola's men have achieved only one win in their last 12 games in all competitions. Haaland had started the Premier League season on fire as he scored 10 goals in their first five league clashes, but that form has disappeared and he has only scored three times since the start of August. The Norwegian has now taken the blame for the champions' struggles.

Speaking to TNT Sports after Saturday's 2-1 loss at Aston Villa, Haaland said: "First, I'm looking at myself. I haven't been doing things good enough, I haven't been scoring my chances. I have to do better, I haven't been good enough.

"Of course, our confidence is not the best. We know how important confidence is and you can see that it affects every human being. That is how it is, we have to continue and stay positive even though it is difficult."

Guardiola's credentials have been called into question amid this terrible run. However, Haaland continues to back the Catalan tactician to turn things around.

He added: "He won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget that. He will find the solutions. He has been doing that every single year. We still believe in him, we have to work harder than ever right now."

The Norwegian will be in action on Boxing Day when City take on Everton at home. He will be hoping to put in a better performance at the Etihad Stadium than he did at Villa Park.
