De Zerbi has emerged as Barcelona's top choice to replace Xavi at the helm, according to AS. THE BIGGER PICTURE

Barcelona may want De Zerbi but could find it difficult to secure a deal for the Italian. The coach is contracted to Brighton until 2026 and has an exit clause set at €10 million (£8.5m/$10.7m), with it remaining to be seen if the cash-strapped Catalans will be able to finance such a deal. De Zerbi certainly seems to have impressed Barcelona chiefs with his work in the Premier League. He secured European football for the first time in the club's history last season, with his team playing an attractive brand of attacking football.

  • WHAT DE ZERBI HAS SAID ABOUT HIS FUTURE

De Zerbi has spoken about his future and admitted he is flattered to hear of interest from top clubs. He told Sky Sports: "When I hear that the big teams are interested in me, it’s an honour, it makes me proud, but my focus is on my work, day by day.

"About my future, I speak with the owners and the club because I want to compete in the best way that I can, I want to understand the plan, and then it’s not a problem to work at a big team or at another big team."
