Let me stay! Andre Onana pleads with Cameroon to delay AFCON trip so he can play in Man Utd's FA Cup clash against Wigan

Onana has been included in Cameroon's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations next month. Cameroon are set to play a friendly against Zambia in Saudi Arabia on January 9 before they begin their tournament campaign in Ivory Coast against Guinea on January 15. However, according to ESPN, the goalkeeper wants to play in United's FA Cup third round clash with Wigan on January 8.

Onana has endured a rocky start to life at Old Trafford since his £43 million summer move from Inter. The goalkeeper reportedly wants to limit his time away from the club as he continues to adapt to his new surroundings.

Onana retired from international duty in December 2022 after falling out with Cameroon manager Rigobert Song during the World Cup in Qatar. He returned to the fold in September.

Even if Onana gets his wish, a run to the AFCON final on February 11 would see Onana miss United's Premier League meetings with Tottenham, Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa, plus a potential FA Cup fourth round tie. With Onana in goal, Cameroon will attempt to win the AFCON for a sixth time.
