The court sided with former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra in a case that challenged some of FIFA’s longstanding transfer rules. The decision ruled that certain restrictions placed on players were inconsistent with European Union law, particularly regarding labour mobility and anti-competitive behaviour. Isak’s camp is believed to be aware of the implications of this ruling and may view it as a last resort should Newcastle hold firm on their valuation.
