Obaroakpo praises Abia Warriors’ resilience after Plateau United win

Abia Warriors’ defender, Austin Obaroapko has revealed that their self belief that could still pick the maximum points in as much as the match official has not blown the final whistle was what motivated them to get a late victory over Plateau United in Umuahia on Sunday in a league tie.

The match seem destined to end in a draw after Hamzat Jamiu leveled for the Peace Boys 10 minutes from the regulation time but Abia Warriors were awarded a penalty kick eight minutes into the injury time which was converted by Sheriff Bashir for the winning goal and his second of the match.

Obaroakpo disclosed that they deserved the three points against the league leaders having started the game very well and even got the curtain raiser through Bashir in the 11th minute and that they also dominated possession throughout the match save for the brief period they had which produced their equaliser.

“It was a tough game but we deserve the three points because we showed more hunger and the willingness to win. We also dominated for most part of the game. We never stopped believing in ourselves and it paid off when we got the winning goal at the dead. Plateau United are also a tough side but the three points today (Sunday) belonged to Abia Warriors,” Obaroakpo told Goal.

Abia Warriors moved a step up to 11th on the league table by virtue of the three points with 35 points from 25 games and they will travel to Gombe to face the Desert Scorpions this weekend in another league encounter.
