Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Mark Williams says club's supporters should expect another trophyless season.
With the Soweto giants having failed to win a major trophy in three consecutive seasons, the Amakhosi management are expected to bring in new players and technical team.
Quality players such as Reyaad Pieterse, Andile Jali and Siphesihle Ndlovu are said to be on Chiefs’ radar ahead of the upcoming July-August transfer window.
However, retired striker Williams has stated that Amakhosi fans must be prepared for another season without silverware.
"It would be unrealistic to rebuild a team and want to win in the first season,” Willams told The SowetanLive.
Chiefs’ Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates rebuilt their squad and brought in a new technical team following a disastrous 2016/17 season with the club having failed to finish in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) top eight.
The Buccaneers were transformed into PSL title contenders by Serbian tactician Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic this season, but they could only finish second in the league without winning a trophy.
“Pirates rebuilt and they didn't win in the first season but what will count is how it happens," he added.
Chiefs have been slammed by their fans for not signing quality players in the past and their former midfielder Jabulani Mendu, feels that management has no choice but to sign top players to appease their supporters.
"Without doubt I think they will have to invest in top quality players to improve in the coming season," he said.
Mendu believes that proven players can help the team bring back the glory days.
"It needs to go back to the Chiefs of old which would put fear in the hearts of opponents. For them to do that they can't just buy players who have not proven themselves,” he added.
Amakhosi, who are under the guidance of caretaker coach Patrick Mabedi, have a chance to finish third and qualify for next season’s Caf Confederation Cup.
