Hearts, Kotoko, Sharks cruise to FA Cup round 32

Ghana FA Cup round of 64 took place over the weekend across 32 centres in the country.

On Saturday, Aduana Stars fell 1-0 to second-tier side Eleven Wonders in Techiman thanks to a goal from Abdul Wahab, while Ashanti Gold suffered their second successive elimination at the same stage in two seasons to the same opponent, when Asokwa Deportivo defeated them on penalties.

Hans Kwoffie gave the visitors the lead after Emmanuel Osei Baffour had missed a spot kick but Deportivo got the equaliser through Francis Arthur and eventually won 3-1 on penalties, while Bechem United pipped Young Apostles 2-0.

On Sunday, Kotoko new caretaker coach Frimpong Manso paraded a strong team against lower division side BYF Academy including goalkeeper Isaac Amoako, who was handed his debut start in two seasons. Others included Eric Donkor, Baba Mahama, and Kwame Boateng.

Michael Akuffo missed a penalty in the first-half before Boateng made amends for Kotoko. However, the hosts equalised through Thomas Gyawu and pushed the game to penalties. The visitors' goalkeeper saved two penalties to win the day.

In Accra, Hearts of Oak defeated city rivals Sporting Mirren 2-1 courtesy of goals from Anthony Nimo Asamoah and Patrick Razak but Medeama also had to wait for penalties shootout before they could confirm their qualification.
