The fate of Kaizer Chiefs coaches in the last decade

On Wednesday, Ernst Middendorp became the latest coach to be fired by Kaizer Chiefs.
The Soweto giants have had several coaches in the 10 years as they look to keep up with a dominant Mamelodi Sundowns side.

Goal takes a look at how Amakhosi coaches have fared in the last decade:&nbsp;

Amakhosi coaching history since 2010 

The Serbian tactician spent three seasons with Amakhosi between 2009 and 2012 - guiding the team to two Telkom Knockout Cup triumphs in his first two campaigns with the club.
Vermezovic also turned Amakhosi into perennial title&nbsp;contenders as they finished third on the league standings - six points behind the champions SuperSport United in his first season with the club.

Amakhosi then came close to winning the coveted trophy in the following campaign as they finished third again, but just a point behind the champions Orlando Pirates.

However, Chiefs surprisingly fired Vermezovic&nbsp;in April 2012 with seven league matches left and the team was still in the race for the league title.

The Soweto giants lost their next three&nbsp;league matches under interim coach Ace Khuse and ultimately finished fifth - eight points behind champions Pirates.

The Engish mentor was brought in to end Chiefs' eight-year wait for the PSL title in June 2012 and he managed to deliver it in his first season with the club.&nbsp;
Baxter also ended Pirates' dominance with Bucs having&nbsp;won two successive titles and Chiefs&nbsp;also clinched the Nedbank Cup at the end of the experienced coach's maiden season.&nbsp;

A trophyless season followed with the Soweto giants finishing as runners-up - two points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns and the club management kept its faith in Baxter.

The former Finland coach delivered another league and cup (MTN8) double in what proved to be his final season with the Glamour Boys.

Amakhosi chairman Kaizer Motaiung confirmed that Baxter had amicably terminated his contract and he moved to Turkey where was appointed&nbsp;Genclerbirligi head coach.

The Bafana Bafana legend was brought in to ensure Chiefs continue their winning culture and he got off to a promising start at the Naturena-based side.&nbsp;
Komphela guided Amakhosi to back-to-back finals, but they lost both matches against Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout Cup respectively in 2015.
The Glamour Boys struggled to challenge for the league title under Komphela as they finished fifth and fourth during his first two seasons with the club.

Pressure mounted on Komphela in his third campaign with the club as angry Chiefs fans threw objects at the retired defender at the end of certain matches.

This escalated in April 2018 following Chiefs' defeat to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-final as fans invaded the stadium field.

Komphela resigned with immediate effect with three league matches left and the team went on to finish third under interim coach Patrick Mabedi - 12 points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Italian tactician's appointment as the new Chiefs head coach in July 2018 came as a surprise ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.&nbsp;
Solinas had failed to prove himself during his previous stint in the PSL with Free State Stars and he nearly got the team relegated from the elite league. 
 
The nomadic coach adopted a rotation policy which did not work as chopping and changing the starting line-up every week affected the team's form.

Amakhosi were very inconsistent towards the Christmas break and they were falling behind in the race for the league title and his reign looked set to end soon.

Solinas was dismissed by the club's management&nbsp;following a string of poor results in December 2018.

The German mentor was re-appointed Chiefs head coach in December 2018 having won the Absa Cup (Nedbank Cup) and SAA Supa 8 (MTN8) during his two-year reign at the club between 2005 and 2007.
However, Middendorp couldn't&nbsp;stabilize the Amakhosi ship, although he managed to guide the team to the Nedbank Cup final where they were stunned by National First Division&nbsp;(NFD) side TS Galaxy.

Chiefs also registered their worst finish in over a decade, finishing ninth on the league standings under the former Arminia Bielefield&nbsp;coach and the team failed to qualify for the 2019 MTN8. 
 
However, club management kept its faith in Middendorp, who transformed the Soweto giants into serious PSL title contenders in the 2019/20 season.

Amakhosi looked destined to end their five-year trophy drought, but they let a 13-point lead slip away and they lost the league title to Mamelodi Sundowns on the last day of the season last weekend.

Middendorp has since been fired and Amakhosi are back in the market for a new&nbsp;coach as their five-year trophy drought continues.&nbsp;
