Tottenham steal a march on Man Utd! Spurs open transfer talks over Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo ahead of potential January move

The France international defender is high on Tottenham Hotspur's priority list for the January transfer window as they have reportedly initiated talks to sign the player from Nice, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Premier League side have already spoken to the player's representatives and will soon try to negotiate a deal with the French club to secure the player's signature.

Manchester United were keen on signing Todibo during the summer transfer window and were reportedly plotting a move worth €40 million (£34m/$43m) for the Frenchman but a deal eventually did not materialise.

But the Red Devils are expected to come up with another offer for the player next month as they look to bolster their backline after a rocky start to the season.

After the summer transfer window closed, the 23-year-old had stated that he was not sure about making a move to the Red Devils as he was unclear about the role that he would have been offered at the club.

The centre-back has appeared in 14 out of the 16 Ligue 1 matches Nice have played this season and out of those 14 outings, the club has managed to keep a clean sheet on 10 occasions.

He will be next seen in action on Wednesday as Les Aiglons take on Lens in the French league.
