The Serie A title-winning coach finds himself under mounting pressure this season as the Rossoneri scratch around for consistency. They sit nine points adrift of arch-rivals Inter in the race for domestic title glory, have slipped out of the Champions League and into the Europa League, while seeing Atalanta dash their Coppa Italia dreams at the quarter-final stage.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani told Sky Sport Italia after seeing another route to major silverware closed off: “It’s very disappointing because we wanted to stay in the running in all possible competitions, even in Serie A we believe we can do better. This evening there were negative moments which unfortunately penalised us, but not everything is going badly, and we remain focused on the present with clarity and the desire to do well.”

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Pioli was booed by his own supporters when the full-time whistle blew against Atalanta, leading to more uncomfortable questions being asked of his future. According to Calciomercato, the 58-year-old is set to be moved on in the summer, with the most ambitious of outfits preparing to move in a different coaching direction.

WHAT NEXT FOR PULISIC & MILAN?

It remains to be seen what that will mean for Pulisic and his USMNT team-mate Yunus Musah, with the American pair having been snapped up by Pioli in the summer of 2023. They have fared admirably during their debut campaign in Italy, which suggests that they should figure prominently in the plans of whoever is handed the reins next in Milan.
