I would like to start this week’s column off by wishing all women a wonderful woman’s month and I hope that you had a wonderful women’s day. My opinion is that women should be celebrated every day!

On that note, I want to take a minute to congratulate South Africa’s top female referee, Aimee Barrett-Theron for being named as one of the nine-member referee panel to officiate at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland from August 9-26.

Article continues below

Aimee is the only South African referee on the panel which consists of 14 match officials in total. Very well done on this achievement and thank you for representing our country in such high accord.

Another noteworthy achievement is that of Laura Wolvaardt who topped the batting averages for the Proteas at the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup – and her captain Dané van Niekerk for achieving the best bowler of the tournament title –well done to both these women.

Happy Women's Day

I could probably go on with all the amazing things that women achieve not only in sport but daily but unfortunately this is not possible as the list is endless.

On to some MTN8 fixtures and news - The fixtures see Bidvest Wits vs Golden Arrows; Mamelodi Sundowns vs Maritzburg United(MUFC); Kaizer Chiefs vs Supersport United (SSU) and our boys going head to head with Polokwane.

HOW DOES THE MTN8 INFLUENCE THE PSL TITLE RACE?

Wits- I think- will be looking to see how well their new recruits will fit in with the team and they will also be looking to defend the title.

Golden Arrows, on the other hand, will be out to upset the tournament.

Sundowns, in my opinion, will also be very competitive as they have one of the best teams on paper.

MUFC has made their intentions very clear with their list of signings.

Our game against Polokwane is definitely going to be entertaining as we going to come out full force. We have a score to settle them - for our 4-2 defeat last season. Be sure to be tuned in!

With Chiefs, I think the pressure is always on for them as they are always expected to win. It will be very interesting, however, to see what changes Eric Tinkler has made to SSU playing strategies and formations.

THE SCIENCE OF PRE-SEASON FOOTBALL

As for the League, the first five games will be very tough as we take on Wits, Chiefs and Pirates.

All I can say is bring it….. we ready!

Till next week……..
