Thomas Tuchel asked his players to return for pre-season on 2 July with his international players coming back a week later on 9 July.

They underwent a week-long pre-season training camp at UCLA's world-class sporting facilities, where the Blues have trained in years gone by and which were a personal favourite of former coach Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea first travelled to Las Vegas Raiders' Allegiant Stadium to open their pre-season with a match against Mexican giants Club America, which they won 2-1. That was followed by a penalty defeat to Charlotte in North Carolina, with a heavy 4-0 loss to Arsenal in Orlando after that.

When returning to Europe, the Blues defeated Serie A outfit Udinese on Italian soil by a 3-1 scoreline. They played a second friendly the day after, against another Udinese XI, this time winning 2-0 courtesy of goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Hakim Ziyech.
