Akonnor confident about Kotoko's preparedness for Caf Confederation Cup

Asante Kotoko coach Charles 'CK' Akonnor believes his side will be battle ready by November 28 when they play their first game of the 2018-19 Caf Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors have been drawn to face either Eding FC or Lion Blesse FC of Cameroon in the preliminary round of the continental inter-club competition.

There have been concerns about the readiness of the Kumasi-based outfit, particularly by the recent appointment of their coach, recent addition of several new players and the lack of competitive local action to set the side for their African campaign.

“We should be ready for the Confederation Cup game," Akonnor said, as reported by his club's official website.

"From what we have seen, we should do 20 to 30 per cent more against Medeama [on Wednesday], and then improve more on Sunday against Togolese club [Gomido FC].

“We need to improve in certain areas of the game. I am very hopeful that we would see that on Wednesday, and see the way forward against the Togolese team next Sunday before the Confederation Cup match itself.

“We have had time to discuss the way forward with the players; how to play with the ball, without the ball and how to move.

"On the video analyses of our training sessions and games, it seems clear that they understand. It means that we have to work more on the field to exercise, and patiently things would improve. We are almost there.”

Kotoko will host the winner of the Cameroonian Cup on November 28 before travelling for the return leg a week later.

The Porcupine Warriors will be hoping to go a step better than last season where they fell at the first hurdle.
