Moise Kean's father has said that he stopped his son from joining Manchester United several years ago.
The Juventus striker has emerged as one of his country's top young talents, but he appears on the verge of a move to England.
Goal reported earlier this week that the 19-year-old is set to join Everton in a deal worth an initial €32 million (£29m/$35m).
But it could have been different for the Italy international, who nearly joined United in his early teens according to his father.
"I did stop his transfer at the time, his mother wanted to send him to Manchester [United]," Biorou Jean Kean told Omnisport.
"I said no because I wanted him to stay at Juventus and keep learning. He was not mature enough yet.
"To send a young boy abroad aged just 14-15 years old didn't convince me at that time."
Kean is now ready to make that move, having scored six Serie A goals for Juve last season despite making just 13 appearances and five starts.
The striker has represented Italy at every youth level, and has now scored two goals in three caps for the senior national team.
Kean's father, who was born in the Ivory Coast, believes his son has what it takes to be a success in the Premier League.
"I completely trust my son, he will make a big impact in English football with his new team," Kean said.
"He is someone who brings joy wherever he plays.
"I'm sure my son will not look bad in England. He will make our family, Italy and Ivory Coast proud."
Man Utd may have missed out on Kean several years ago, but they do appear close to landing another Juventus striker this summer.
United have opened discussions over a move for Paulo Dybala in what could potentially be a swap deal with Juve involving Romelu Lukaku.
