Dean Furman hints at conservative Bafana Bafana approach

SuperSport United captain Dean Furman is quietly confident that Bafana Bafana will get the result needed to book their place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The midfielder who returned to Bafana fold after missing the previous clash against Nigeria through injury is expected to be part of head coach Stuart Baxter’s matchday squad that will go in search of the point needed to secure their ticket to Egypt.

A draw or win will be enough for Bafana to advance, and Furman believes it is important that they learn from what has been a rather inconsistent campaign.

“It is all about getting the job done, we can’t have excuses,” Furman told Phakaaathi.

“It has been an up-and-down group because we started off with a fantastic win over Nigeria and then we had a fantastic result against Seychelles and a disappointing draw away to Seychelles,” he added.

“So it has been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for us but we have to finish in the right style and I think we have the squad to take us all the way,” he said.

Furthermore, Furman has hinted that Bafana might look to operate on the counter-attack when they take on Libya on Sunday.

The Mediterranean Knights are also not out of the running for a place at the continental showpiece and this could see them come out guns blazing in Tunisia.

“With them needing a win they are going to throw bodies forward and hopefully that might suit us. The likes of Themba Zwane, Percy Tau, Keagan Dolly [Since been ruled out] or whoever plays, we know we have got a lot of speed going forward and we can exploit spaces. Hopefully we are going to see them coming at us,” he concluded.
