Wellington Phoenix sign Polish midfielder Michal Kopczyński

Mark Rudan has signed his fifth player at Wellington Phoenix bringing in Polish midfielder Michal Kopczyński on a season-long loan.

The 26-year-old is contracted to Polish giants Legia Warsaw and has previously been loaned out to Wigry Suwałki.

Since signing for Warsaw in 2012, Kopczyński has played just 53 games and scored one goal.

His time with Wigry in the 2014/15 season was far more successful as he made 26 appearances and found the back of the net three times.

Kopczyński was also part of the Legia starting squad that held Real Madrid to a 3-3 draw in the Champions League back in 2016.

He'll now head to New Zealand for his first football stint outside of Poland and is excited by the move to Wellington.

"I wanted to experience something new in playing abroad and talking about the project with Mark helped me to decide to come to Wellington," Kopczyński said.

"He’s clear about what he wants in his players and what he needs from me.

"I have heard about Filip (Kurto) signing so it will be good for me to help settle in."

Kopczyński joins Steven Taylor, Filip Kurto, Mitch Nichols and David Williams as the club's off-season additions to date.
