Brendan Rodgers confirms Daniel Arzani's worst injury fears

Australian teenager Daniel Arzani is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament on his Celtic debut.

The 19-year-old lasted just over 20 minutes before going down awkwardly on his knee and needed to be stretchered from the field.

There were immediate concerns Arzani may have done his ACL with Rodgers now confirming the worst after initial scans.

"We are waiting on the final analysis of the scans but it is unfortunate. It looks like we will have two cruciate injuries," Rodgers said.

"If it is the case it will rule them both out for the rest of the season.

"It's hugely disappointing for both boys because they have been on the sidelines working their way through and in the last week they have been given opportunities, and both are innocuous really.

"One a landing and two, Daniel's was a twist where his studs stayed in the grass and twisted his knee.

"We'll assess what's best for Daniel. He still has to go through the final part of his scan at the beginning of next week hopefully and then there will be a plan put in place for him."

Arzani had impressed in his short cameo of the bench, earning a few rave reviews from the Hoops faithful.

He had spent the past two months with the academy side and was desperate to make a positive first impression in the senior side.

While the exact nature of the cruciate injury hasn't be revealed, ACL injuries can take between nine to twelve months to fully recover from - though Arzani does have youth on his side.

It's a cruel blow for the talented Aussie and the Socceroos, who will all but certainly be without his services for the 2019 Asian Cup in January.
