That's all from Stadio Diego Armando Maradona today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
While Napoli's pursuit of the Scudetto continues next weekend, away to Torino, they must first seal their place in the Champions League quarter-finals by seeing off Frankfurt on Wednesday. Atalanta, meanwhile, will aim to end their goal drought against Empoli next Friday.
Making the most of Inter's latest slip-up, Napoli pull 18 points clear at the Serie A summit with a gritty win at Stadio Maradona. Denied by Musso on several occasions, Spalletti's side held firm at the other end to keep yet another clean sheet and a moment of magic from Kvaratskhelia broke the deadlock with an hour played. Victory was just reward for a dominant display, in which Atalanta offered very little: for the first time since 2018, the Bergamo club have failed to score in three consecutive league games.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: NAPOLI 2-0 ATALANTA
90' + 3' An ambitious attempt from a free-kick, taken around 25 yards out, is sent far over the crossbar by Anguissa.
90' + 1' In the first of four minutes indicated for stoppage time, Atalanta still have possession but are not really threatening to even find a consolation goal. Their struggles in the final third have continued today.
A. Lookman
R. Tolói
89' La Dea's top scorer Lookman is given only a few minutes to make any impact, as Toloi is withdrawn.
87' Atalanta are finally having a little more of the ball, as Napoli sit off somewhat and look to coast home towards three more points: a long-awaited Scudetto draws ever nearer.
A. Zerbin
K. Kvaratskhelia
85' Having produced a memorable goal to open the scoring, Kvaratskhelia makes way; Zerbin is thrown on for a brief cameo.
G. Simeone
V. Osimhen
85' Reacting with fury to his removal, Osimhen must make way after a rare goalless appearance, as Simeone comes on for the closing stages.
83' SAVE! Gollini keeps his sheet clean! Zapata lays the ball off for an incoming run down the left side of the area by Ruggeri, who meets it with a rasping near-post drive: Napoli's on-loan goalkeeper blocks the effort with his fists!
81' Scalvini gets away with a trip on Kvaratskhelia, and more than one Napoli player asks the referee why the young defender isn't shown a second yellow card. Only a free-kick is awarded.
79' Demonstrating their staying power this season, Napoli have now scored 14 goals in the final 15 minutes of the second half in Serie A - more than any other side.
E. Elmas
Assist
77' Setting up Napoli's crucial second goal, substitute set-piece taker Elmas sends over an inswinging cross from a corner towards the penalty spot.
A. Rrahmani
Goal
77' NAPOLI SURELY SEAL IT! A towering header from Rrahmani sends the ball looping over the desperate dive of Musso and it nestles in the back of the net! Elmas has taken over set-piece duties from Zielinski, and it was his cross following a corner which set up the chance! It's now 2-0 to the Azzurri: game over?
Juan Jesus
Kim Min-Jae
76' Due to injury, Kim is withdrawn by Spalletti, with Jesus coming on in his place.
75' Having hurt himself in tackling Zapata just a few minutes ago, Kim now seems unable to continue. A replacement for the Napoli defender is being prepared on the touchline.
73' DOUBLE STOP! Gollini makes his first saves! First, the stand-in stopper keeps out a low drive from Muriel towards the bottom corner, then he denies his parent club by saving Zapata's header!
71' Just as Zapata is poised to pull the trigger on the edge of Napoli's box, Kim lunges in with a perfectly-timed tackle which sends the ball behind for a corner.
D. Zappacosta
J. Mæhle
69' A straight swap on the right flank sees Zappacosta coming on for Maehle.
J. Boga
M. Pašalić
68' Gasperini turns to his bench for inspiration - it has not been a great showing from La Dea. First, Boga replaces Pasalic.
68' From an Elmas corner, Olivera can't get any power on his header from near the penalty spot and Atalanta eventually survive Napoli's latest assault when the whistle blows for offside.
T. Ndombélé
P. Zieliński
66' Ndombele is also offered an opportunity to impress; Zielinski makes way.
E. Elmas
M. Politano
66' A lively display from Politano comes to an early end, as Elmas comes on to provide fresh legs on the right flank.
64' Zielinski is upended by De Roon's mistimed tackle in midfield, and Napoli will have a free-kick around 30 yards from goal in a central position.
62' Yet again, Napoli's main men - Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia - have led the fight today. The latter has attempted five shots, including his brilliant goal; Osimhen has tried his luck with four.
V. Osimhen
Assist
60' After Anguissa wins the ball back in midfield, Osimhen receives it and slides a short pass into Kvaratskhelia's path.
K. Kvaratskhelia
Goal
60' NAPOLI LEAD! Fed by Osimhen on the edge of the area, Kvaratskhelia typically sends three opposition defenders in the wrong direction with a series of shimmies, then he slams the ball past Musso and into the back of the net! It's 1-0 to the league leaders, and what a way to do it!
58' MISS! Once more, Politano flips over an inviting cross from the right, and Osimhen's glancing header slips wide of the far post! Napoli are pressing hard now, and getting ever closer.
56' Another hurried strike by Kvaratskhelia wastes possession deep inside the Atalanta half, and on this occasion he sees his scuffed effort crash into the advertising boards several feet wide of the left post.
54' Napoli keep pushing. After Zielinski has a shot blocked by Ederson at close range, the ball breaks for Kvaratskhelia on the edge of the area. The Georgian rushes his shot, however, and sends it clear of the crossbar by more than a metre.
52' Demiral is dragged across to shut down Osimhen, who has drifted out to the right flank, and the Atalanta substitute is happy to concede a corner by making a block.
50' Only one of the last 15 Serie A meetings between Napoli and Atalanta has been drawn, but today's game remains at a stalemate at the start of the second half.
48' SAVE! Politano delivers a tantalising cross from the right and a spectacular overhead kick from Osimhen inside the six-yard box draws another stop from Musso, who dives low to make the save!
46' Having made another substitution at the interval, Atalanta kick off, and we are back under way at Stadio Maradona!
L. Muriel
R. Højlund
46' Muriel comes on to join his Colombian compatriot Zapata up front; Hojlund makes way.
After stand-in goalkeeper Gollini shut his parent club out until half-time, Napoli have now stopped the opposition from scoring a first-half goal in 19 of their 26 league fixtures this season: only Lazio (21) have fared better in that regard.
While Napoli have had more of the ball and most of the chances, the first half of an intriguing contest comes to an end with the game still goalless. The league leaders are Serie A's leading scorers, but they have not fully convinced in the final third today, while Atalanta's last line of defence, Musso, has proved ready when required. Spalletti's side rarely concede goals and have not looked like doing so to this point, but they have become increasingly reliant on Osimhen at the other end – can anyone else step up for the Scudetto favourites after the break?
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: NAPOLI 0-0 ATALANTA
45' + 3' Osimhen over-elaborates as Napoli sense the chance to streak away on the counter, allowing Ruggeri to sprint back and snuff out the danger.
45' + 1' In the first of three minutes indicated for stoppage time, Kvaratskhelia is dismayed not to be awarded a corner on the left byline. Still, Napoli probe in search of an opening goal.
M. Demiral
B. Djimsiti
44' A muscular injury brings Djimsiti's game to a premature conclusion, so Demiral will slot into La Dea's back three as his replacement.
43' Struggling with an injury, Djimsiti calls for medical attention, bringing the action to a temporary halt. It does not look good for the Albania international, who appears to be in some pain.
41' SUPER STOP! Again, Musso is alert to the danger, and he dives down to his left to repel Politano's powerful low strike! On the follow-up, Osimhen tries to take the ball under his control, but Musso blocks his path before the referee then whistles for offside.
40' Caught out of position, Kim commits a clear foul on De Roon as he tries to recover his ground and is fortunate not to receive a booking.
38' Diving low, Musso easily beats Osimhen to a throughball from the right, but it was his proactive starting position which allowed him to do so.
36' Di Lorenzo is fit enough to continue and rejoins the fray, with his team already back on the attack as Atalanta sit deep.
35' The game continues at a lively pace, as Napoli continue to build waves of attacks. However, their momentum is then stalled by an injury to captain Di Lorenzo which halts play.
33' After failing to make it nine straight league games with a goal in last week's defeat to Lazio, today Osimhen aims to avoid going successive Serie A matches without scoring for the first time since September. The Napoli striker has scored in two of his three previous appearances against Atalanta, including his first-ever goal in Italian football.
32' An outswinging free-kick from the right by Zielinski meets the head of Osimhen near the penalty spot, but at full stretch, the Nigeria international can only send his attempt spiralling over the crossbar.
G. Scalvini
Yellow Card
30' Totally beaten for pace by Politano out on the left, Scalvini cynically trips the Napoli winger and is deservedly booked.
28' SAVE! Drifting in from the left touchline before dropping his shoulder and wrong-footing two defenders, Kvaratskhelia wriggles to the byline and drives a low shot at Musso! The goalkeeper makes a block with his chest at the near post!
26' Another set-piece from Zielinski, this time a left-sided free-kick, is not fully cleared by Djimsiti before Anguissa sees a shot charged down inside the area. Napoli continue to push for an opener.
24' Zielinski's corner from the left is comfortably cleared away by the Atalanta defence, but Kvaratskhelia then receives the ball and his ambitious strike at goal is deflected behind for another corner-kick.
22' Venturing into space, Hojlund hangs a cross up towards the back post from the right side of the area, but Pasalic is unable to control a header which flies well off-target.
20' Letting fly with an attempt from the left corner of the area, Kvaratskhelia sees his powerful shot blocked at close range.
V. Osimhen
Yellow Card
18' After failing to bring it down first time, Osimhen tries to beat Ederson to the ball with an outstretched leg. His boot is raised too high, though, so the striker is shown a yellow card.
16' Politano's free-kick from the right is flicked over the crossbar by a Rrahmani header from the edge of the area, an effort which never really troubles Musso.
M. Ruggeri
Yellow Card
15' For lunging into a 50-50 challenge with Di Lorenzo, the first booking of the game goes to Ruggeri.
13' Osimhen is crowded out in the right corner as Ruggeri snaffles the ball away from Napoli's masked man, who only recently saw an eight-game scoring streak ended.
11' Zapata makes his frustration plain as the referee blows for a foul on Di Lorenzo midway through the Napoli half. The hosts' skipper would've been in trouble if he'd lost the ball there, so was happy to go to ground.
9' Some rugged defending from Djimsiti sees the Atalanta centre-back hustle Osimhen off the ball inside his own area, and the away side ultimately get rid of the ball. It's all one-way traffic, though.
7' De Roon gets away with a very risky back-pass to Musso, who does well to divert disaster and manages to clear the ball under pressure from two Azzurri-clad forwards.
6' SAVE! Musso has to scramble down to the bottom corner to deny Politano an early goal, after the Napoli winger exchanges passes with Zielinski on the edge of the box and curls a shot at goal! That's a corner for Napoli.
5' As is customary at Stadio Maradona, the home side are enjoying plenty of the ball during the opening stages, while they probe for an opening in the Atalanta defence.
3' Due to an injury suffered by first-choice goalkeeper Alex Meret in the warm-up, Napoli's on-loan back-up Gollini makes a first Serie A start for the leaders against his parent club!
1' The hosts kick off, and we are under way in Naples!
The players are out on the pitch, with kick-off now just moments away!
Gian Piero Gasperini makes several changes to his stuttering side today, as Zapata is offered a rare start up front and top scorer Lookman drops to the bench. Scalvini, Pasalic and Ederson all come in too, with the latter replacing Teun Koopmeiners in midfield due to the Dutchman sustaining a thigh injury.
Without the suspended Mario Rui due to his dismissal against Empoli last month, and with a muscular problem sidelining Hirving Lozano, Olivera continues to deputise at left-back for Napoli while Politano comes in on the right wing. Raspadori is still out injured, as Serie A's Capocannoniere leader Osimhen again starts up front.
SUBS: Marco Sportiello, Francesco Rossi, Brandon Soppy, Merih Demiral, Davide Zappacosta, Luis Muriel, Jose Luis Palomino, Jeremie Boga, Ademola Lookman, Caleb Okoli.
ATALANTA (3-4-1-2): Juan Musso; Rafael Toloi, Giorgio Scalvini, Berat Djimsiti; Joakim Maehle, Ederson, Marten de Roon, Matteo Ruggeri; Mario Pasalic; Duvan Zapata, Rasmus Hojlund.
SUBS: Davide Marfella, Alessio Zerbin, Giovanni Simeone, Leo Ostigard, Diego Demme, Gianluca Gaetano, Tanguy Ndombele, Karim Zedadka, Eljif Elmas, Bartosz Bereszynski, Juan Jesus.
NAPOLI (4-3-3): Pierluigi Gollini; Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Amir Rrahmani, Kim Min-jae, Mathias Olivera; Frank Anguissa, Stanislav Lobotka, Piotr Zielinski; Matteo Politano, Victor Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Atalanta's recent decline has seen them slip out of Serie A's top four, and a run of just one point form the last three games leaves La Dea with plenty to do in order to secure a European return for next term. Hopes of Champions League qualification faded further following a 0-0 home draw with Udinese last week, a result which followed losses to Lecce and regional rivals Milan. However, the Bergamaschi's most recent trip to Naples ended in a 3-2 success back in December 2021.
Having finally suffered a first home defeat of the Serie A season, Napoli saw their huge advantage at the top of the table cut to 15 points last week. Despite their 1-0 loss to Lazio, Luciano Spalletti's side are still clear Scudetto favourites and will also take a two-goal lead into the second leg of their Champions League tie with Eintracht Frankfurt next week. The Partenopei have won only one of their last four home matches against Atalanta but were 2-1 winners in Bergamo when the clubs last met in early November.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of today's Serie A clash between Napoli and Atalanta at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona!
