Premier League warned of 'complete disaster' in Man City's 115-charge FFP case as English top-flight runs the risk of ruling reveal that 'nobody's going to want'

Despite being made aware that they had at least 115 charges hanging over their head in February 2023, the record-setting champions of England are yet to discover their fate in a long-running FFP saga.

An independent hearing was completed in late 2024, but no verdict has been delivered. It had been suggested that City would be made aware of any potential punishments in the spring, but we have now reached summer with seemingly no end in sight.

Debate regarding possible sanctions for City has continued to rage - ranging from points deductions and transfer embargoes to expulsion from the Premier League - and everybody needs to know where they stand in order to move forward.

City’s former financial advisor, Stefan Borson, has explained why the matter needs to be resolved before the 2025-26 campaign gets underway - with another window of opportunity in which a ruling could be delivered set to open up during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Borson has told talkSPORT: "I think City must be quite close… I think there's been a lot of misinformation about that situation. If you have a 12-week trial, it takes a long time for the decision to come out. In the outside world, it could easily take 12 or 18 months in a High Court equivalent.

"This week felt possible. I thought that if it didn't happen in the international window that we had in April, that the parties would find a way to hold it over until the end of the season so that it didn't distract.

"We're now in a zone where, commercially, if there's any influence at all from the parties – the Premier League or the club – they would want to get that decision out during the close season

"What's the alternative? That it comes out in that three-week period after the Club World Cup, but before the start of the season. And that’s sub-optimal.

"We're getting very close to a situation where, if it doesn't come out in the next couple weeks and doesn't come out during the Club World Cup, you're getting very close to the start of the season. Nobody's going to want that. That is a complete disaster."

Pep Guardiola has already been busy further bolstering his ranks in the first instalment of this summer’s transfer window, while another quest for major silverware will be opened when the Club World Cup gets underway on Saturday.
