Phil Parkinson insists Wrexham won't spend 'for the sake of it' in January transfer window despite Hollywood backing of owners Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney

Although injuries have plagued the team this season, impacting key players like Aaron Hayden, Jordan Tunnicliffe, Eoghan O'Connell and Steven Fletcher, Parkinson does not want to make a decision in haste while looking for potential replacements. The manager acknowledged that the club remains open to making additions but the players should fit in the tactical system and also come at the right price.

Speaking to reporters, Parkinson said: "We’re looking at several options but we’ve got a decent squad as it stands, we want to make sure if we bring a player in obviously it’s not just for the sake of adding another player, it’s someone who we feel can make a difference to the group we’ve got.

"We’ve got players coming back from injury, players like Ryan Barnett who’s been out a long time and still really eager to get his season going, when we get a few players back the squad is strong. Of course, if the right player becomes available at the right price, we’ve got the option to go and add to the squad but we’ll only do that if we feel it’s the right move for the squad."

Shrewsbury's Tom Flanagan has fired the shots ahead of the FA Cup clash with the Red Dragons and hailed The Salops as favourites for the tie. Despite being labelled as underdogs by the opposition, Parkinson remains unfazed and vowed to give a "good account of ourselves" to prove their mettle at New Meadow on Sunday.

"He’s only saying they are division one and we are division two and that’s a fact," the tactician said.

"A team mid-table in League One are going to be favourites against a team a division below. We’ve got to go there with that underdog mentality and understand to get through we’re going to have to reach the levels we did on New Year's Day and probably above that.

"We’ve got to have a complete understanding that’s what it will take and we’ll be ready to give a real good account of ourselves and see if that’s good enough on the day."

Shrewsbury have won five of their last six meetings with Wrexham across all competitions. They head into this match on the back of a 3-1 win over Fleetwood in League One which should further boost their morale.
