More injury frustration for five-goal Paul Mullin? Wrexham fitness update on unfortunate striker & first-choice goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo

The 30-year-old frontman has been a revelation for the Red Dragons since becoming one of the first marquee additions made by Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney following their stunning takeover in 2021.

Mullin has 109 goals for Wrexham to his name, landing three Player of the Year awards, but has struggled to get going in the 2024-25 campaign after undergoing minor surgery last summer. He was back on the sidelines when Phil Parkinson’s side battled their way to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Crawley.

Wrexham’s manager said when explaining the absence of his No.10: “It's just a minor problem with Mulls. I said 'until we get that scan, I don't want to put you at risk because we've got a lot of football to play'. Hopefully it's nothing serious, I don't think it is. It just wasn't quite right.

“When you've got players like Jack [Marriott] and Fletch [Steven Fletcher] and the options we've got, there's no need to risk a player. They were right with the lads in the dressing room, and all of the lads who didn't make the bench like George Evans and [Jacob] Mendy, right with us, that's what we've always been about. We've got a lot of games left and everyone's going to be utilised.”

First-choice goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was another to miss out against Crawley, as he remained an unused substitute, with the 23-year-old still working his way back to full match sharpness after recovering from a broken wrist.

Parkinson added: “With Arthur, he's not been quite right since he's come back. We probably put him back in too soon and he probably needed to come out. These next couple of weeks are really important for us. Mark [Howard] is a cool head and played like the experienced goalkeeper we needed. We just said in the dressing room, we've always been about the squad and the group. It was typified by the lads who weren't in the team today.”

Parkinson, who handed debuts to experienced frontman Jay Rodriguez and record signing Sam Smith away at Crawley, will likely shuffle his pack again on Tuesday when Wrexham face Port Vale in the Football League Trophy third round.
