Erik ten Hag back to Ajax?! Man Utd boss included on Eredivisie giants' summer shortlist of managerial targets alongside Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders

The Amsterdam-based outfit will have a new manager at the helm in 2024-25, with John van’t Schip filling an interim role for now. He has been charged with the task of seeing a campaign out that started with Ajax slumping to the foot of the Eredivisie table.

Ten Hag has shown that he can deliver on expectations at the Johan Cruyff Arena, having guided Ajax to three successive title triumphs before leaving for Old Trafford in 2022. He ended United’s six-year wait for major silverware when savouring Carabao Cup glory in his debut campaign.

United are, however, considering another change in their dugout following struggles for consistency in 2023-24 and the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a 25 per cent stakeholder. Ten Hag may become available in the summer if he fails to deliver European qualification while sustaining a bid for FA Cup success.

Ajax are, however, aware that Ten Hag is likely to fall out of reach. With that in mind, The Mirror reports that they are also mulling over a move for Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders – with Jurgen Klopp’s imminent departure set to deliver coaching change at Anfield. Lijnders has previously spent time in the Eredivisie with NEC Nijmegen and knows Ajax star Jordan Henderson well from their time together on Merseyside.
