'Don't think that would have a positive impact' - Cristiano Ronaldo transfer for Club World Cup brutally ruled out by Flamengo chief

Just hours after scoring in Al-Nassr's final game of the 2024-25 campaign, Ronaldo made a "this chapter is over" post on social media - hinting he won't play for his current side again. Naturally, there have since been widespread rumours over his next move.

Several clubs across the globe have shown interest in the 40-year-old forward, including Sergio Ramos' Monterrey, who will also compete in the upcoming Club World Cup. Rayo Vallecano president Raul Martin Presa, on the other hand, has joked that he would bring Ronaldo back to Spain from Saudi Arabia "in his arms".

Another Club World Cup participant, Flamengo, have been linked with a move for the Al-Nassr star, however, the Brazilian club's football director, Jose Boto, has now brutally ruled out the transfer as he told Radio Renascenca: "We don't look favorably on the arrival of a player, be it Cristiano or anyone else, just to play in the World Cup. We don't think that would have a positive impact on the group. We're going to try to strengthen ourselves for the World Cup, but with players who can reinforce us for the rest of the season.

"It's a new competition, nobody knows how the teams will react to this and making an investment that could jeopardise the rest of the season just because of the Club World Cup, from our sporting perspective, we don't see that in a good light."

As things stand, the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid player is in a race against time to find a new team ahead of the Club World Cup next month. It remains to be seen if Ronaldo decides to continue in Saudi Arabia or look for a new destination to fulfil his dream of scoring 1,000 career goals before retirement.
