Getty Images SportTHE BIGGER PICTURE
The shot stopper's €25 million (£21m/$29m) release clause makes him an accessible option for elite clubs in need of long-term cover in goal. The Catalan club see him as a key target under coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco. However, Espanyol’s local rivals face competition from England, where Joan Garcia’s form has reportedly sparked growing admiration. His hesitance to commit immediately leaves room for a potential Premier League swoop.
Getty Images SportWHAT NEXT FOR JOAN GARCIA
Joan Garcia is currently in the decision-making phase. Barcelona’s interest remains firm, but the allure of Premier League football could tilt the balance. With Espanyol fully aware of his release clause and growing suitors, the race is heating up.
The player wants guaranteed playing time and long-term development, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen's recent assertion that he will be at Barcelona next season may prompt him to opt for a move elsewhere.
