World Cup winner Grosskreutz hospitalised after being attacked on night out

Stuttgart defender Kevin Grosskreutz was taken to hospital on Monday with a head wound sustained after being attacked while on a night out.

The 2014 World Cup winner hit the town with friends following Stuttgart's win over Koln at the weekend but saw his evening brought to an unfortunate conclusion.

A laceration sustained after trouble with another group of three to five revellers required immediate medical attention.

The offenders were caught by the police some time later, but Grosskreutz was nursing a wound by then after taking a blow to the head.

A statement realised by Stuttgart on the club’s official website reads: “Kevin Grosskreutz was, according to our current knowledge, involved in a physical conflict in the night from Monday to Tuesday and taken to a hospital in Stuttgart.

“Kevin Grosskreutz is doing well in the circumstances.

“In all likelihood, he can leave the hospital again on Wednesday. Kevin Grosskreutz will report after the incident.”

The 28-year-old, formerly of Borussia Dortmund, has made 17 appearances for Stuttgart in all competitions this season, helping them to open up a five-point lead at the top of the 2. Bundesliga.
