Giovani dos Santos, Raul Jimenez start for Mexico vs. Scotland

Giovani dos Santos and Raul Jimenez will work to end a scoreless snap when they start for Mexico against Scotland.

Mexico doesn't often play in a 4-2-3-1, but Saturday's lineup may set up for manager Juan Carlos Osorio to utilize the formation with Dos Santos as a playmaker. With both Hector Moreno and Diego Reyes unavailable, Carlos Salcedo is starting at left center back with Miguel Layun filling the right-back role and Jesus Gallardo starting on the left. Hugo Ayala rounds out the back four in front of goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Osorio said earlier this week that Dos Santos, whose brother begins the night on the bench, had to decide where he saw himself playing and that the coaching staff agreed he might be best playing just behind a No. 9.

Hector Herrera and Edson Alvarez start, as they did in Monday's scoreless draw against Wales. Osorio has given in to temptation and is starting Hirving Lozano after expressing concern about the star winger playing and getting injured. Carlos Vela is the other winger. He typically plays on the right side as an inverted winger.

Rafa Marquez is set to play his last match in Mexico, but he'll have to do so as a substitute if he is to see the field. Marquez is retired from club soccer but is set to take part in his fifth World Cup this summer before becoming a director.

Just before Saturday's match, Mexico announced that Jesus Molina, Jurgen Damm and Oswaldo Alanis had been cut from the World Cup squad. Those players will watch the match from a suite in the Estadio Azteca.
