Per Martyn Ziegler of The Times, Chelsea paid an astonishing £75m to agents across the last two transfer windows. In those windows - January of 2024 and the summer of 2023 - the Blues spent just under £400m ($498m) on new players. Manchester City paid £60m ($75m) to agents over the same period, but the third-highest spending club lags way behind; Manchester United paid agents £34m ($42m).

WHAT HAPPENED?

The revelation comes amid speculation over Chelsea's financial situation and their adherence to PSR - profit and sustainability rules - in the Premier League. Teams in England's top-flight can only post losses of up to £105m ($134m) and Chelsea, as a result, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/chelsea-more-severe-points-deduction-everton-nottingham-forest-psr-breaches-financial-expert-prediction/blt406ee25a851f28e1#cs0e3a1de3b28d6193" target="_blank">may be forced to move players on to comply</a>. They have been warned that if they cannot do that, they will face a more severe points deduction than both <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/another-premier-league-points-deduction-nottingham-forest-learn-when-discover-punishment-breaching-financial-rules/blt5c53fe8f10d93051" target="_blank">Everton and Nottingham Forest</a>.

Chelsea's incredible spending under Todd Boehly has seen them sign no fewer than 34 players, although it remains to be seen how many of them remain at Stamford Bridge this summer.
