The Bavarians <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/why-bayern-munich-are-right-to-replace-trendy-julian-nagelsmann-with-proven-winner-thomas-tuchel/blt4e71e3500464bf26" target="_blank">axed Nagelsmann in March 2023</a>, to replace him with Thomas Tuchel, after they were knocked off the top of the table by Borussia Dortmund. Although Tuchel rallied them to the 2023 Bundesliga title quite dramatically on the final matchday, the team currently finds itself 10 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen and it has already been confirmed that the current head coach will be <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/thomas-tuchel-to-leave-bayern-munich-bundesliga-part-ways-german-coach-in-summer-xabi-alonso-jurgen-klopp/blt430d3ab11a804d03" target="_blank">departing this summer</a>.

WHAT HAPPENED?

A return for Nagelsmann, though, is now being considered. According to <a href="https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1773785008890659014" target="_blank">Sport Bild, </a>Max Eberl, Head of Sport at Bayern, has already got in touch with Nagelsmann to gauge his interest in a potential return ahead of what could be a shocking U-turn.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bayern had initially wanted Xabi Alonso to take over but the Spaniard <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/xabi-alonso-decision-rejects-bayern-munich-liverpool-bayer-leverkusen-stay/blt3f58b772b9b209a9" target="_blank">announced that he would be continuing</a> in the Bay Arena. Then former Real <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/bayern-munich-manager-hunt-zinedine-zidane-ruled-thomas-tuchel-successor-xabi-alonso-snub/bltb0b28b3be5939f67#cs7d9bc80c488549aa" target="_blank">Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was sensationally linked </a>with them but those rumours have also been struck down.
