Yobe Stars appoint Taiye Yusuf as acting coach after Ngozi Elechi’s dismissal

Nigeria Professional Football League side, Yobe Desert Stars have named Taiye Yusuf as their acting head coach after they sacked former technical adviser, Ngozi Elechi after a string of poor results.

The Damaturu outfit are neck deep in the relegation zone and the management of the club headed by Abubakar Ago decided to relieve Elechi of his duties after he failed to gain appreciable points from the three-match ultimatum which was even extended because of the belief in him that things would change.

A statement from the club media stated that the club Managing Director, Ago has expressed displeasure with the club's recent performance in the 2019 league season and has decided to take the bull by the horn to salvage the team from getting relegated at the end of the season.

“We have found ourselves in a very difficult situation in which a change is needed to salvage the club from going down to the lower league,” Ago was quoted by the club media.

“We have lost three straight games within 10 days and this has made us do the necessary change to ensure that we survive at the end of the season. I admire Elechi very much and he is someone I respect too because he is a top trainer. It was the reason why we delayed the decision because it was harder for us to take but we do not have any other choice than to terminate his contract with us.

“We have Taiye Yusuf and Saleh Mohammed to take charge of the team in the interim for now until we are able to name a new substantive coach. We want to assure all our fans that Yobe Stars will do everything possible to ensure that we remain in the premier league at the end of the season.”

Elechi became the head coach of Yobe Stars following the departure of Mohammed Babaganaru at the end of last season and he was offered a two-year contract before the latest turn of event.

They have a crucial away tie against Gombe United this weekend in one of the matchday 13 fixtures.
