William’s back! Troost-Ekong scores first Super Lig goal of the season in defeat to Andre Ayew’s Fenerbahce

Bursaspor’s William Troost-Ekong scored his first Super Lig goal of the season as he netted in the first half at Fenerbahce.

Despite his effort, the Green Crocodiles bowed 2-1 at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium to begin the season on a mediocre note.

With just 16 minutes into the game, Troost-Ekong powered in a flying header from a corner kick – which completely beat goalkeeper Volkan Demirel.

The goal stimulated the hosts to life as they bounced back to win courtesy strikes from Giuliano and Josef De Souza.

The game was Ghana’s Andre Ayew debut since his loan move from Swansea in July. The 28-year old was handed a starters’ shirt by Phillip Cocu but was substituted in the closing seconds of the game by Alper Potuk. He was cautioned in the 35th minute.

The Ghanaian expressed his disappointment following his inability to mark his first appearance.

For Troost-Ekong, he dedicated his goal to his son but reveals that his side will keep fighting.

Bursaspor host Kayserispor in their next tie, while Fenerbahce try Yeni Malatyaspor for size on August 18.
