Bayern Munich lifted the German Super Cup for the 12th time in their history on Saturday, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at the Signal Iduna Park.
The Bavarians arrived as reigning champions of both the German league and the German Cup, while Dortmund earned their place as Bundesliga runners-up.

Nathaniel Brown broke the deadlock in the 28th minute. The ball dropped to him inside the box and the German full-back lashed a powerful left-footed strike past a rooted Gregor Kobel.
Dortmund hit back through Algerian star Rami Bensebaini, who turned Julian Ryerson's cross into the net in the 41st minute. The referee ruled it out for offside after a review.
Michael Olise doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time. Pouncing on a loose ball in midfield, he surged towards the Dortmund area, broke through and finished superbly with his left foot from close range.
A yellow uprising
Dortmund came out firing after the break. The hosts dominated possession and carved out chance after chance before Fabio Silva beat Neuer in the 75th minute, his strike deflecting off substitute Alphonso Davies following a low cross from Daniel Svensson.
Bayern steadied themselves somewhat after conceding, and Moroccan star Ismael Saibari replaced Nathaniel Brown in the 81st minute.
Then came the drama. In the 90th minute, Algerian international Rami Bensebaini saw a straight red for a violent challenge on Saibari.
Down to ten men, Dortmund almost stole an equaliser in the 90+3rd minute. Maximilian Beier raced through one-on-one with Manuel Neuer but ballooned his effort over the crossbar in bizarre fashion. Bayern held on for a 2-1 win and the title.
