Kevin Muscat's tenure as Melbourne Victory coach has ended with a 3-1 loss to Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the Asian Champions League.
Victory, who were also farewelling captain Carl Valeri, found themselves behind after just five minutes with Taishi Matsumoto heading Sanfrecce in front following a corner.
Kevin Muscat's side would grow into the contest and after good spell of possession should have equalised in the 27th minute only for Ola Toivonen to poke wide after being released by Keisuke Honda.
The Swedish striker would find his target in the second half as he curled home a stunning free-kick in the 70th minute.
Victory would be level for just two minutes however as Yusuke Minagawa restored Sanfrecce's lead with a measured finish.
The J-League side would then double their lead in the 75th minute with Tsukasa Morishima firing home from distance.
Sanfrecce walking away with a 3-1 win which sees them finish first in Group F, while Victory finished a distant bottom picking up just one point from their six group games.
That points return the fewest of any Australian side in the Asian Champions League group stage.
