Ulinzi Stars' Nyangweso names best goalkeeper in FKF Premier League

Ulinzi Stars head coach Benjamin Nyangweso believes James Saruni is currently the best goalkeeper in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The custodian has been doing well for the Soldiers and was in goal as Kenya defeated Togo 2-1 in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Lome. The Harambee Star pulled some top saves on Saturday to help his team keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks at the Narok Stadium.

It is, for this reason, the tactician believes his keeper is the best and deserves to be where he is.

"There is no doubt that Saruni is the best keeper in the country at the moment," Nyangweso opined.

"He literally carried us in the first leg, and [on Saturday] he showed his worth again with great saves that kept us in the game. He deserves to be where he is and even at the national team, he deserves that number one jersey.

"I have to appreciate my players for their hard work and dedication. We had time to reflect on the first leg when football was suspended and an advantage too of watching the first week as football resumed and we set a clear path that we want to follow."

The tactician has further exuded his confidence, the four-time champions will perform well in the second round of the competition after struggles in the first one.

He went on to explain how he is shaping his attack and did not hide his happiness after Clinton Omondi scored his first goal against the Sharks.

"We will have a better second leg and I trust these players will deliver as we look to get back what we can after a slow first leg," Nyangweso continued.

"Winning breeds confidence and going to the next game I have faith we will prevail.

"We had that problem; sometimes creating a few chances and failing to make use of them. It has been a bit unsettling for me because we were putting in a lot in training but I’m happy we are getting it right and I’m happy too [for Clinton Omondi] who has scored his first league goal for the team. It is a good motivation for him, and Masita Masuta as well and I hope this continues."
