UEFA Europa League: Road to Baku - Arsenal's Highlights from knockout stages

Arsenal have romped into the final of the UEFA Europa League after some clinical performances in the 2018-19 season. Having set up a date with Chelsea in Baku, the Gunners would be aiming to end the season on a high by winning the title in an all-English meeting.

In the first season post the Arsene Wenger-era, Unai Emery has led the club to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League. That means winning the Europa League is the only way Arsenal could be in the Champions League next season. What helps their cause is that Emery knows the competition in an out, having won the trophy three times with Sevilla.

Arsenal emerged from the group stages unbeaten, topping Group E ahead of Sporting Clube de Portugal, Vorskla Poltava and Qarabag. BATE Borisov pulled off a shock 1-0 win in the first leg of their Round of 32 game at home. It took an own goal and two headed goals by defenders from corner-kicks in the second leg to ensure Arsenal's 3-1 win on aggregate.

It was another similar story come the first leg of the Round of 16s. French side Stade Rennais made it 3-1 at home after Alex Iwobi got the crucial away goal. That came to resuce at the Emirates when a 3-0 win with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring a brace meant Arsenal managed to qualify to the next round by a narrow 4-3 margin.

The big test against Napoli in the quarter-final was something where Emery's side negotiated clinically. 2-0 at home and 1-0 away meant the Gunners won 3-0 on aggregate. Aaron Ramsey appeared in an Arsenal shirt for the very last time during the second leg after scoring in the first.

Emery then took Arsenal to face his former side Valencia in the semi-finals. Alexandre Lacazette scored a brace in the first leg, a 3-1 win and Aubameyang tore apart the Spanish side in the return leg (4-2 win) with a hat-trick as Arsenal marched to Baku with a 7-3 aggregate scoreline.
