Thika United survive KPL promotion battle

Thika United have confirmed their place in the 2018 Kenyan Premier League following a 2-1 aggregate win over Ushuru in the playoff battle.

The milkmen survived a rigorous two-legged playoff against Ushuru after the Sports Dispute Tribunal threw away their court case that sought to challenge the playoff criteria.

But Nicholas Muyoti men put behind the legal setback when they secured their place with a 2-1 aggregate win over the taxmen.

Having won the first leg at home last Friday, Thika just needed a scoreless draw to sail through and they did just that at Narok Stadium in the return leg on Sunday.

With a place in KPL next season assured, Thika will now engage another gear, of changing its name to Mount Kenya United as proposed by Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria.

Kuria who pledged Thika United players Sh300,000 if they seal their place in the KPL next season, said that the team needs to change its name to appeal to the larger Mt. Kenya Community to attract a larger following like two other community clubs, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

Ushuru will now play in the National Super League for the second year running.
