The first ever Madrid derby outside of Europe takes place in the early hours of Saturday morning as Real Madrid and Atletico meet at MetLife Stadium.

Zinedine Zidane's side were beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich in their first match of the International Champions Cup before overcoming Arsenal on penalties despite trailing 2-0 at half-time.

Diego Simeone's men, meanwhile, opened their account in the tournament with a 0-0 draw against Mexican outfit Chivas and eventually prevailed 5-4 in the penalty shootout.

Atletico will be able to call on the services of former Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente despite his red card against Chivas.

Preview

There is no doubt that both sides will be highly motivated for the game in New Jersey and despite it being a friendly, it should be a competitive encounter.

There has been little to chose between the cross-city rivals in recent meetings and the games tend to be close affairs, with four of the last five derbies ending as draws (after 90 minutes).

Both sides drew their previous matches in the tournament and these two neighbours could well cancel each other out. Backing another stalemate should appeal, while there are some other angles from which to approach what is likely to be a tight game.

Tips and predictions

The draw after 90 minutes is a strong option at 13/5 (3.60) but backing the stalemate after 45 minutes at 13/10 (2.30) should attract plenty of attention.

Four of the last five derbies have been level at half-time, while three of those five first halves have been goalless. Under 0.5 goals in the opening half is priced at 12/5 (3.40), which could well offer some value for a small stake.
