Betting: Is Terry set to snub MLS to join Aston Villa?

Having become synonymous with Chelsea over the course of more than 20 years at Stamford Bridge, John Terry will now begin a new chapter of his career outside of West London.

While the former England captain is reportedly not short of offers from overseas, his desire to remain in England means Betfair Sportsbook are offering long 20/1 (21.00) odds on him moving to the MLS and 25/1 (26.00) for him to sign for any Chinese club.

Instead, Aston Villa find themselves clear 1/4 (1.25) favourites to secure his signature in a remarkable transfer coup, with manager Steve Bruce having spent the last few weeks convincing the 36-year-old to drop down a division.

That move would certainly disappoint Harry Redknapp, whose chances of luring him to rivals Birmingham City are now rated at a reasonably lengthy 4/1 (5.00) despite the generous contract on offer.

Either of those clubs would deserve a great deal of kudos for winning the race for the veteran defender, who has also attracted interest from a number of Premier League teams.

As a renowned defensive tactician, Tony Pulis would no doubt love to be able to call upon Terry’s significant experience in his backline, and can be backed at 12/1 (13.00) to snatch him away from West Brom’s midlands neighbours.

After reportedly failing in a bid for the Blues centre-back in January, Bournemouth are now priced at 14/1 (15.00) to succeed at the second attempt this summer.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea assistant manager Paul Clement may want to take advantage of his Stamford Bridge connections in a bid to bring him to Swansea City 16/1 (17.00), with newly promoted Brighton also on offer at 16/1 (17.00) to bolster their survival chances with such a big name signing.

Finally, Arsene Wenger is a 33/1 (34.00) long shot to persuade the Stamford Bridge legend to cross London and join Arsenal in a move that would undoubtedly cause quite a stir.
