A-League run home: Melbourne Victory face almost impossible mission to overhaul Sydney FC

Second position in the A-League is Sydney FC's to lose with the fixturing opening up for the Sky Blues to comfortably earn a home final with two rounds remaining.

With Perth Glory securing the Premiers Plate already, Steve Corica's side hold a two-point advantage over Melbourne Victory and it's one they should manage to keep their grip on.

The Sky Blues host the Glory on Thursday night at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in what would usually be a danger match they could drop points in - considering Perth have only lost twice all season.

But now the Glory have wrapped their first silverware in the A-League era, their intentions have turned to winning the double, and after an arduous season of travel, the result against Sydney FC isn't going to mean much to Tony Popovic.

"The position we’re now in gives us the chance for a bit of a break. That gives us the extra time to get everybody fit and ready to go again," Glory defender Jason Davidson told The World Game.

"We can rest players now and that can only be an advantage for us. The boys have done a lot of traveling and a bit of tiredness kicks in ... I think it’s the right time now to make sure for prepared just right for finals time."

A win for the Sky Blues against the A-League's Premiers would put the pressure squarely on Melbourne Victory, who travel to Coopers Stadium on Good Friday for a clash against rivals Adelaide United.

It's the first of two tough away matches for Victory to finish the regular season - with their final clash coming against an improving Western Sydney Wanderers at ANZ Stadium.

Six points from their last two games will represent an enormous feat for Victory against two of their biggest rivals but it still could not be enough to overhaul the Sky Blues.

However, Sydney FC complete their home-and-away campaign with a trip to Newcastle - who will have nothing to lose after a season of disappointment - in a fixture that could be tough to secure all three points in.

It's nearly the business end of the A-League season -  time for the big boys to play.
