Man Utd agree Andre Onana transfer with Inter for fee rising to €55m as goalkeeper set to sign five-year contract with Red Devils

  • United agree Onana deal
  • Goalkeeper will sign until 2028
  • Onana replaces De Gea as United No.1

WHAT HAPPENED? The Red Devils have finally struck a deal with Inter to sign Onana, GOAL understands. United have agreed an initial fee of €51 million (£43.8m/$57.3m) with the Serie A side plus an additional €4m (£3.4m/$4.5m) dependent on performance and success. The Cameroonian is set to sign a five-year contract with an optional sixth year.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Onana, 27, is due for his medical with United imminently and the club hope he can join Erik ten Hag's squad as soon as possible, with the Red Devils travelling to the United States later this week for their pre-season tour. Onana is United's second signing of the summer following their £60m ($78m) capture of Mason Mount and the club are pleased to have added another top-quality player to their squad early in pre-season.

AND WHAT'S MORE: Onana will become United's new No. 1 after David de Gea recently announced his departure from the club when his contract expired. The Cameroonian played under Ten Hag for five years at Ajax, winning multiple Eredivisie titles and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019. Onana spent only one year with Inter but was a key player in the team's run to the Champions League final and impressed in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in Istanbul.
