Man Utd target Sidibe hailed for Arsenal snub and backed to join a 'top club'

Djibril Sidibe has been backed to join one of “the top European clubs” by Monaco’s vice-president after previously snubbing interest from Arsenal.

Vadim Vasilyev has hailed the defender’s decision to turn down a move to the Gunners last summer in favour of remaining in France.

He traded life at Lille for that at Monaco, and has been rewarded with a productive campaign that has him challenging for the Ligue 1 title and through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Sidibe has also forced his way into the France national team, with Didier Deschamps impressed by a contribution at club level which includes three goals and five assists from full-back.

While the 24-year-old has starred throughout the 2016-17 campaign, his efforts have been noted elsewhere.

Premier League rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are said to be considering summer approaches, and Vasilyev admits that Sidibe is deserving of a grand stage.

He told RMC: “That is part of life as a turn-over club.

“That some players come in and go out, that is part of our project.

“Djibril Sidibe preferred Monaco to Arsenal, now he is in the French national team, and he can join the top European clubs. He deserves it.”
