Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lucky Mohomi rubbishes exit talks

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lucky Mohomi is determined to fight for his place in the team despite being linked with a move away.

Mohomi, who made just two appearances for Sundowns last season has seemingly fallen even further down the pecking order since the acquisition of Andile Jali in the current transfer window.

The 27-year-old was not part of Sundowns’ matchday squad that suffered defeat to AS Togo-Port in Lome on Tuesday, and recent reports have suggested that he could be on his way out of the club.

However, in an interview with SABC, Mohomi has explained why he experienced just 29 minutes of game-time last season.

Furthermore, Mohomi reveals that there has not been any discussion about him going out on loan.

“My problem last season was a knee injury that I sustained when I hurt my knee at training and ended up on the side-lines for a long time,” Mohomi told SABC.

"But I'm now fine and fit. I'm looking forward to the new season. I have not talked with Sundowns about going on loan. I know nothing about it,” he fit.

Aside from Jali, Mohomi faces hefty competition in the middle of the park with Hlompho Kekana, Tiyani Mabunda and even Bangaly Soumahoro able to play there.

"My desire is to obviously stay and fight for my place in the team,” he added.

"It's very tough because I compete with players who are regulars for the national team,” he admitted.

"I have to raise my game and work harder because I also deserve to be at the team but playing with them is a motivation to prove myself," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Mohomi will hope to get some valuable minutes under his belt this weekend in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup, where Sundowns will come up against Johannesburg rivals Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.
