Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has refused to allow goalkeeper Denis Onyango to shoulder the blame for conceding during Masandawana’s draw with Maritzburg United on Wednesday evening.
Sundowns had taken the lead early through Themba Zwane, but an uncharacteristic mistake by the Brazilians No.1 allowed Andrea Fileccia to draw the Team of Choice before the half-time interval.
"Good game of football. This is what we need to give to the people at the stadium and the people watching at home," Mosimane told SuperSport TV after the game at a packed Harry Gwala Stadium.
"Both teams pressing from the top, there's this thing of sitting back, parking buses and playing five at the back. This is how football is.
"We tried to win the match and unfortunately we couldn't win, but it's OK. Denis (Onyango) has been our best player all the time. He made a mistake and he's allowed to make that mistake, but it's part of football and Percy (Tau) could have finished it off.
Despite Tebogo Langerman scoring deep into the second half, the points would indeed have to be shared as Lebohang Maboe once again showed his quality as he equalised at the death. This led Sundowns' 53-year-old mentor to lament his side's killer instinct.
"We got our tactics right, even on Sunday we got our tactics right but you must also give them credit for their inter-passing which is terrific that's why they scored the goal,” he added.
"Also, Sundowns doesn't finish their opportunities, we should have finished them. We need to be shrewd and lethal in the box and take the goal. But it's a good game of football, we don't just come pitch, we worked a little bit more harder,” he concluded.
The draw now means that Sundowns are just one more win away from lifting the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title. Sundowns will next be in action on Saturday as they welcome the relegation threatened Ajax Cape Town to Tshwane.
