Liverpool v Spartak Moscow: Hosts to continue scoring run with Champions League strikes

Liverpool will be hoping to extend their fantastic run of form when they host Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges have scored at least three goals in seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, as well as in each of the last 10 matches that they have won, and the men from Merseyside will fancy their chances of getting amongst the goals once again at Anfield.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last seven matches at the group stage in this competition – although five of those fixtures ended in a draw – and should the men from Merseyside avoid defeat here, they will be assured of a place in the Champions League knockout stages for the first time since 2008/2009.

Klopp’s team are available at just 1/4 (1.25) with dabblebet to move into the Last 16 in style by claiming all three points at Anfield, while the same firm go 5/1 (6.0) that the Reds play out a sixth draw in eight Champions League group stage games.

Spartak, though, have a poor record in this competition, having won just six of their last 40 Champions League clashes and failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 15 matches in this competition; furthermore, Massimo Carrera’s men have been beaten in 22 of their last 28 away matches in the Champions League.

A win in this one, though, would guarantee Spartak of a place in the knockout stages for the first since 1995/96 and dabblebet offer 10/1 (11.0) that the Russians claim a memorable victory on Merseyside.

The task facing the visitors, though, is certainly daunting; only Paris Saint-Germain have scored more Champions League goals than Liverpool so far this season, while Roberto Firmino, who scored twice in Liverpool’s 5-1 win at Brighton on Saturday, has notched five goals in his five Champions League appearances so far this season.

The Reds surrendered a 3-0 lead against Sevilla in their most recent Champions League outing and, including the play-off tie against Hoffenheim, there have been more than two goals scored in six of Liverpool’s seven fixtures in the competition so far this season and dabblebet offer just 4/9 (1.53) that there are at least three goals this time around.

Better value, therefore, may lie in backing the Reds to hit at least three goals again; with Klopp’s men in free-scoring form, the 4/5 (1.80) quote for Liverpool to score more than twice could offer decent value for punters ahead of this Champions League clash.
